Curious what 14 month olds are about? Check out what milestones are typically hit, activities they can be doing and developmentally age appropriate toys. We’ve got you covered in this blog post. ♥️

Hi, mamas! If your little one is nearing their 14-month mark, you’re probably seeing them grow and change right before your eyes. It’s such an exciting time filled with new milestones, developing skills, and a newfound sense of independence.

14 months was SUCH a fun stage for my kiddos. They are reaching so many fun milestones like walking! If your little one is already walking- check out our recent post on must have baby proofing items.

In this post, I’ll share what you can expect at this stage, from average weight and size to fun activities and must-have toys to support your 14-month-old’s growth.

Milestones We’re Seeing

1. Walking and Running: By now, many toddlers are confidently walking and even starting to run (well, more like wobble rapidly). It’s so amazing to watch them navigate their little world on two feet! Make sure they have plenty of safe space to explore and burn off some energy. I’ve found that a good pair of sturdy shoes makes a big difference as they master their balance.

2. Language Development: Your 14-month-old might be starting to say a few words and understand simple instructions. It’s so cute to hear them attempt new words and use gestures to communicate. Reading together has been a fantastic way for us to introduce new words and concepts. This interactive board book has been a hit with my little one!

3. Fine Motor Skills: At this age, toddlers are really starting to develop their dexterity. They might be stacking blocks, turning pages of a book, or trying to use utensils with more precision. We’ve enjoyed activities like stacking and building to help with these skills. These classic wooden building blocks are a favorite in our house.

4. Social Skills: I’ve noticed my child showing more interest in playing alongside other kids and even imitating simple actions. It’s a joy to see them start to grasp the concepts of sharing and taking turns, even though it can be a bit challenging at times.

Tips for Parents

1. Be Patient: Each child develops at their own pace, and that’s perfectly okay. They might be slower at reaching milestones, and that is okay! Celebrate the small victories and remember that growth is a gradual process.

2. Encourage Exploration: Allow your child to explore their surroundings safely. It’s wonderful to see them learn about the world on their own terms.

3. Provide a Balanced Routine: A mix of structured activities, free play, and rest is key to a happy and healthy toddler. A balanced routine supports overall development.

4. Foster Independence: Let your child make simple choices and try new things with your guidance. It helps build confidence and a sense of autonomy.
